The Furnace
Standing on this bridge,
looking down into the dark, whispering water,
I take a step over the ledge,
falling,
to leave all behind,
forget all,
finally, reaching the depths to face the doors of hell,
and realize that’s not where I want to be.
The dark, tendrilled seed,
wrapped tightly around my lonely soul,
flutters away in ashes,
letting my bygones go,
remembering how I feel about you now,
letting me walk back to your candle,
so that maybe you would be the one to love me.
So far away,
I awake from a bad dream,
I take a different step,
never falling,
never jumping,
no longer lying to myself that the love you gave,
was the divide, you
without fail, contrived,
to push you and me apart.
I am left here in an empty space,
a furnace under my feet,
the overwhelming feeling that you cheat
on the love I gave.
always feeling the hurt,
of the doting paths we crossed, you so easily part,
for another dance.
Never again,
will I fall,
in love.
Never will I reach the door,
to free my heart.
